Goodbye Conoscenza, Hello MarcelVenema.com
Due to legal reasons I was not able to blog it earlier, but I am happy to announce that I have quit my consultancy job at my previous employer and start my own independent IT consultancy firm.
I worked with pleasure the last three years with ConoScenza and would like to thank them for the confidence, opportunities and collaboration.

Information is key
When doing a migration project, having the correct information about your workstations is critical for success. You want to know where the workstation is located, which employee is using it and what software is installed....
How to monitor your website
I am hosting marcelvenema.com at my own home. I am using a virtual machine on my research and development infrastructure.
This ‘infrastructure’ is a big word for 2 servers running an Intel i5 processor with 32GB RAM each, a server with a i7 processor and 32GB RAM and a small HTPC. All are connected to two Synology NAS systems. The home-build servers are all running a different hypervisor, Citrix XenServer, VMWare ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V. Just because it is research and development, the change that something will break is more than average.

...59 ways to publish your application
Do you know that there are 59 ways to publish an application in your enterprise infrastructure?
I bet you don’t. Most people count only four: a MSI based installations or an application virtualization package, installed/streamed to a workstation or a Server Based Computing server.
But there are more, and there is a huge possibility you need all 59 different ways, or at least a great deal of them in your enterprise IT infrastructure. Most enterprise IT departments have a vision or strategy how their infrastructure should be developed. ‘We do only VDI, we only use Server Based Computing or we have a mix of XenApp and traditional Windows 7 workstations’ are often heard from my customers.
